LEF FOUNDATIONPROGRAM : LEF is a private foundation that supports the creation and presentation of contemporary work in the fields of visual art, performing art, new media, literary art, architecture and design. LEF is committed to providing support for provocative and innovative projects. LEF seeks to identify and promote creative ventures and to sponsor work that challenges its audience with new ways of perceiving the world. LEF values the relationship between art and its context. LEF is particularly interested in projects that demonstrate an awareness of the relationship between the work and its site. It is also interested in projects representing a convergence of disciplines that are interdisciplinary, or collaborative in format. As a small, independent arts funder, LEF acts both responsively and proactively. Our strategy is to apply the Foundation's resources in as nimble and effective a manner as possible. To encourage an atmosphere of creative possibility, LEF often endorses projects at the early stage of their development. LEF seeks opportunities where its funding will impact the success of the proposed activity by providing seed money, working in collaboration or in partnership with other funding sources, or in an effort to leverage additional support. The arts are transformative and essential. Now more than ever, LEF Foundation feels it is necessary to safeguard the potential connections that a dynamic and diverse cultural life provides. LEF Foundation operates within two regional areas: California and New England. Each region has unique areas of interest and funding priorities. Please refer to the specific guidelines for the region from which you are applying. For projects in occurring outside of these two regions, please contact the main office in California. ANTONIO CIRINO MEMORIAL ART EDUCATION FELLOWSHIP, THE RHODE ISLAND FOUNDATIONPROGRAM : The fellowship provides support for graduate students in arts education. Applicant must have been a RI resident for at least 5 years. Preference is given to visual artists; however, writers, actors and composers interested in teaching are also encouraged to apply. Approximately 8-10 scholarships in amounts ranging from $2,000-$10,000 will be awarded; fellowship is renewable. Graduate or Undergraduate students from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) are not eligible. CONTACT :

THE VISUAL ARTS SEA GRANT, FINE ARTS CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLANDPROGRAM : The Visual Arts Sea Grant, sponsored by the Fine Arts Center at the University of Rhode Island, was established in 1988 to encourage New England professional visual artists, collaborative artist teams, and curators to create and present work related to themes of the ocean and its coastal communities. CONSTANCE SALTONSTALL FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTSPROGRAM : The Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts annually awards $5,000 grants to a limited number of writers and visual artists who live in the central and western counties of New York State. SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES STIPENDS (SOS), NEW YORK FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTSPROGRAM : Special Opportunities Stipends (SOS) are career advancement mini-grants designed to help individual artists take advantage of opportunities that will significantly benefit their work or career development. Opportunities should be specific, forthcoming, and distinct from work-in-progress. Literary, media, visual, music, and performing artists may request support ranging from $100-$600. SOS grants are restricted to New York State residents who have lived in the state for at least a year before the application deadline. Only artists who do not live within one of New York City뭩 five boroughs are eligible. Applications will be accepted in 3 rounds, each with its own submission deadline and award dates. The deadlines for completed applications are updated on the Web site below. Applications must be in the appropriate regional office by 5:00 pm on the day of the deadline. EMERGENCY GRANT FOR ARTISTS OF COLOR, HERBERT AND IRENE WHEELER FOUNDATIONPROGRAM : Grants of at least $250 to aid visual artists of color with urgent financial needs such as housing, medical costs, fire, and flood damage. Applicants must live in the greater NYC area (including certain counties in CT & NJ), and must be actively working artists of at least 21 years of age.
